Egyptian Finally Frees Google Staff

The Egyptian government finally frees the Google staff that had held for nearly two weeks.

“Freedom is a blessing worth fighting for,” said Google’s staff, Wael Ghonim, in his statement posted via the official Twitter account @ Ghonim, shortly after his release.

Wael Ghonim, who served as Google’s head of marketing for the Middle East and North Africa, has been freed by the Egyptian government on Monday local time.

Ghonim was detained for two weeks due to join in the protest along with thousands of other Egyptian citizens to demand the resignation of Hosni Mubarak from the reins of leadership.

Before the protest took place, Ghonim also had a chance to write last tweet that tells the security conditions in Egypt and the movement is going to happen.


“Pray for Egypt. The government plans to wage war against citizens. We were all ready to die,” wrote tweet Ghonim at the time.

An eyewitness said the Egyptian police look Ghonim arrested during protests took place. Google also directly question for help all parties to be able to report the existence of Ghonim. Even Amnesty International, organizations that fight for human rights, condemned the action.

“We are very relieved. Wael Ghonim been released. Our like for him and his family,” said Google’s party in Twitter.
